LH Continues to Improve Air Quality in Jakarta

Jakarta Environment (LH) Agency is committed to keep improving air quality in Jakarta. In addition to vehicle emission test, LH Agency also carries out various strategic policies and applies sanction to violators.

LH Agency has also carried out active monitoring of immovable source emissions

From Jakarta LH Agency's data from January to June 28, 2021, as many as 169,251 four-wheeled vehicles had participated in vehicle emission test. Through emission test, vehicle's exhaust gas will be monitored whether it exceeds the regulatory threshold or not.

This year, Jakarta LH Agency is also targeting to train 550 technicians about vehicle emission testing, both for cars and motorcycles. In detail, 500 technicians will be trained to carry out emission testing for cars while 50 technicians for motorcycles.

Total 500 technicians for car emission testing came from 213 workshops and 50 technicians for motorcycles emission test came from 23 workshops.

Moreover, LH Agency has also carried out active monitoring of immovable source emissions in 307 business in 2019 and 2020. As the result, 178 business activities were subject to administrative sanctions for violating Law (UU) No. 32/2009 on Environmental Management and Protection.

Jakarta LH Agency's Monitoring Section head, Wishnu Widhiana explained, active monitoring was carried out on 244 business activities in 2019 and 62 business activities in 2020.

"As many as 123 companies receive governmental coercion sanctions and 56 companies receive written warnings," he added, Wednesday (6/30).

Due to pandemic, in 2021, Jakarta LH Agency will be focus on passive monitoring as one of coaching and monitoring solutions.

"For passive monitoring, notification letters are given to 823 business activities," he mentioned.

For information, legal basis and assessment of compliance with environmental management and monitoring are carried out in accordance with Law No. 32/2009 on Environmental Management and Protection.

As well as Government Regulation No. 27/2021 about Environmental Permits and Environment and Forestry Minister Regulation No. 2/2013 on Guidelines for Implementing Administration Sanctions in Environmental Management and Protection.
